What Fergus Taught Us About Keeping Dogs Busy
If there’s one thing Fergus has taught us, it’s that a bored dog can quickly become a very creative dog!
From investigating things he probably shouldn’t to finding new ways to entertain himself, Fergus has always kept us on our toes. His curiosity reminded us just how important mental stimulation is for happy dogs.
Give Their Minds a Workout
Dogs need more than physical exercise. Simple activities such as puzzle toys, basic training, scent games and hide-and-seek can give their brains something interesting to work on.
Turn Mischief Into Something Positive
Instead of simply telling Fergus what not to do, we learned to give him better things to focus on. Redirecting his energy into play, training and exploration helped turn potential mischief into positive activities.
Every Dog Needs Something to Do
A few minutes of focused play or training can make a big difference to a dog’s day. And when their bodies and minds are happily occupied, there’s usually less time left for trouble!
Fergus may still find the occasional opportunity for mischief, but that’s part of what makes him Fergus. Life with dogs is never boring — and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
